Sustainable Planning Process:
• Generally speaking, I would say that backwards design influences my preferred planning process.
• Backward design in education is a lesson planning strategy that starts with the final assessment, then asks teachers to build their lessons toward that goal. This differs from transitional lesson design, in which teachers identify content they need to cover, build relevant lessons, then create the final assessment.
• Overall, outlining goals in sequential order, and then working backwards to design learning activities suited toward those goals / state standards makes the most sense to me.
• First, identifying the intended learning outcomes of the unit and big ideas.
• Then, making sure the unit plan is aligned with said standards that need to be met.
• Next would be identifying what are the learning objectives based on the big ideas and the standards.
• Developing a plan and sequence of the unit, which then takes me to decide the types of assessments necessary and when to execute them.
• Identifying the best resources and technologies for the unit.
